Whitecaps Eke One Out in Edmonton

The Vancouver WhitecapsFC started the 2013 AmWay Canadian Championship with a 3-2 victory over EdmontonFC of the 2nd tier North American Soccer League.
The Whitecaps were expected to easily handle Edmonton but this game
almost didn't go to plan.  Up until very late in the game EdmontonFC were hanging on to a 2-1 lead.  A questionable penalty awarded to Camilo allowed the Caps to tie it up. Tom Heinemann banged in a rebound shortly after to put the Whitecaps up 3-2.
EdmontonFC were perhaps unlucky to not at least get a result, but were outplayed for large stretches of the game as the superior quality of the Whitecaps came through.
TorontoFC downed the Montreal Impact 2-0 in the other semi-final.
The second leg goes at BCPlace Stadium next Wednesday May 1st.
