Canucks Dropping Like Flies

Ahead of tonight's big tilt against the Chicago Blackhawks, comes word that Chris Tanev will miss at least one game with a  broken thumb, and likely won't be ready until after the Olympic break.

GREAT!  Just what they needed!  Another injury!

In what is quickly becoming a season
spiraling out of control, the Canucks have been bit hard by the injury bug.  Many key players have missed multiple games this year among them Roberto Luongo, Alex Burrows, Alex Edler, Mike Santorelli, Henrik Sedin, and now Chris Tanev.  In fact, I'm not sure if the Canucks have iced their entire starting line-up for more than 2 consecutive games all season.

For a team that is hard-pressed to score goals and needs to play staunch defense and rely on stellar goaltending to eke out one goal wins, these injuries are certainly taking a toll.  Though the Canucks are currently sitting in a playoff spot in the NHL's Western Conference, they might not be at season's end; and if they do make the playoffs it would be hard to imagine them getting past the first round, even with their full line-up.

Maybe the Canucks will have better luck with injuries next year.
